I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. We have received reports of incidents involving the harassment and stalking of females, including young women and girls, within the local area. We understand that these reports may cause concern within the community. We are working with our partners to monitor the situation and would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or concerning behaviour.
Staying Safe
Residents are encouraged to:
Stay aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone. Avoid poorly lit or isolated areas where possible. Let someone know your route and expected arrival time. Keep your mobile phone charged and accessible. Trust your instincts – if a situation or person makes you feel uncomfortable, move to a safe place and seek help. Report any incidents of harassment, stalking, or suspicious behaviour to the police immediately.
Message for Parents and Carers
Please take time to speak with your children and young people about personal safety. Encourage them to:
Stay alert when out and about. Avoid engaging with strangers who make them feel uncomfortable. Travel with friends where possible. Inform a trusted adult where they are going and when they expect to return. Report any behaviour that makes them feel unsafe, whether in person or online. Never be afraid to seek help from a trusted adult, teacher, parent, or police officer.
Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness harassment, stalking, or any behaviour that causes concern, please report it to the police. In an emergency, or if there is an immediate risk to someone's safety, always call 999.
By remaining vigilant and looking out for one another, we can help keep our community safe.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
